Frequently asked questions

WHY HIRE A BIOHAZARD CLEANUP COMPANY?

For friends, family members, homeowners, and property managers a biohazard/trauma scene (suicide, decomposition, homicide, etc.) is the last situation they are prepared to handle. Family members, friends or employees who try to clean blood, body fluids, etc. can find this taxing situation both physically and emotional overwhelming. Not to mention that cleaning after a trauma scene exposes you to many potential hazards associated with blood, tissue, and bodily fluids. It is estimated that 1 out of 20 people in the US are infected with some type of Hepatitis and do not realize it. One single teaspoon of infected blood can contain over a billion Hepatitis cells. Another thing to consider is the emotional stress involved in cleaning up the scene where a loved one has passed away. You are better off hiring an experienced company to handle this difficult situation for you.

IS TRAUMA SCENE CLEANUP SAFE?

Cleaning up after crime scene cleans may look easy, however you need to be careful as diseases such as hepatitis, HIV, and other deadly diseases may be present. Many items have sharp objects that can puncture skins. Even simple things such as moving a blood stained mattress may be a challenge; the cleaner must be careful not to bend the mattress in a way that pushes blood into his eyes and mouth by accident.

HOW QUICKLY CAN YOU RESPOND TO A SITUATION?

We have trained technicians in Washington and Oregon who on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, including holidays. Depending on where you are located, we can usually reach a location in 30 to 90 minutes.

HOW LONG DOES THE PROCESS TAKE?

Jobs are generally done in 2-8 hours.

CAN I HAVE A FRIEND, FAMILY MEMBER, OR EMPLOYEE CLEAN THE TRAUMA SCENE?

SHA’s Bloodborne Pathogen Standards (29CFR1910.1030) states that employees must be provided with information and training prior to dealing with blood or other potentially infectious material (OPIM), including:

  • Receiving blood-borne pathogen (BBP) training.
  • Having a written BBP exposure control plan.
  • Having been provided personal protective equipment.
  • Having been offered Hepatitis B vaccine and exposure evaluation and follow-up.
  • Being provided with a method to remove and properly store the bio-hazardous waste in properly marked containers for disposal at an approved site.
  • Only after all of these five steps have been met can an employee be required by his or her employer to clean a bio hazardous/crime scene.
  • And finally, if someone is caught illegally dumping items contaminated with blood and body fluids, the person can and will be fined (with fines in the $1000s) or even face jail time.

In the end, it is best to keep your family, friends, and employees safe and hire a certified and experienced company like Bio Management Northwest to take care of the cleanup.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

When covered by insurance, there will be zero cost to you. Bio Management Northwest waives your deductible up to $1500 to guarantee that you will not have to pay a penny. When a job is not covered by insurance, we use sliding scale pricing to determine the cost of a job. To get a free quote, please call us at 1-877-524-6411.

Bio Management Northwest considers a few key factors and the cost is determined by the number of technicians necessary, the hours required to do the job, the amount of hazardous material needing disposal, and the cost of certain supplies needed to complete the cleaning process. More pricing information can be found on our Pricing page.

DOES MY INSURANCE COVER THIS?

99% of incidents like these that occur in the home or vehicle are covered by homeowner’s insurance. With renters insurance, it often depends on your coverage, but we are happy to look at your policy for you and help with the process.

It’s important to note that insurance companies cannot dictate who you use.

When policy holders call their insurance company, often times the adjuster’s office will try to coerce policy holders into using a specific company such as Service Master, Servpro, etc. They do so because they have more control over these companies if they want to be on their “referral list.” The law states that clients are free to use whom ever they choose, and that benefits and guarantees can not be withheld from policy holders.

Remember, Bio Management Northwest has your best interest at heart, not in pleasing the insurance companies. With 20 years experience, we have the expertise to address all your issues.

HOW IS CRIME SCENE CLEANUP PERFORMED?
Crime scenes have the potential to generate significant hazards to human health. Notably, the biggest hazard is the threat of biological contamination that can spread bloodborne diseases to those who come in contact. These types of scenes require extensive cleanup immediately, before the hazards have a chance to affect others. These scenes can be extremely challenging to those not properly trained in handling them.

Crime scene cleanup is a specialized process that takes the burden away from friends and loved ones of the deceased. Cleaning up a crime scene can present physical and emotional hazards, and our team provides support throughout the whole process. We ensure that the entire scene is cleaned and sanitized to remove any biohazards such as blood borne pathogens and other infectious agents that are found in bodily fluids. Our technicians are certified to handle crime scenes of any complexity.

IS CRIME SCENE CLEANUP COVERED BY INSURANCE?

The last thing that you want to worry about when a crime occurs on your property is the cost involved in the cleanup. Insurance often provides you with coverage that will remove a great deal of this burden, but these cases can often be complex to resolve. It is important to understand that should hazards be present, cleanup should be performed as soon as possible.

The answer to the question of whether or not crime scene cleanup is covered by insurance depends upon the type of insurance that you have and your insurance carrier. Homeowner’s insurance will often cover crime scene cleanup in the home or your vehicle most of the time, but renters insurance can be more complicated. Our team is happy to assist you in determining whether our services are covered under your insurance policy, so call our team to learn more about your options.

WHAT STEPS DO YOU TAKE TO ENSURE THOROUGH WATER DAMAGE CLEANUP?
Our team removes any excess water in your home before completing water damage cleanup services. Once the water is removed, we use state-of-the-art equipment to thoroughly dry your home and eliminate any trace of moisture to reduce the risk of mold.
WHAT ARE THE BEST WAYS TO REMOVE MOLD FROM MY HOME?
Many products like white vinegar and bleach promise to eliminate mold. However, these products don’t take care of 100 percent of all mold spores. To safely and effectively remove mold from your home, you need experienced professionals who use the right equipment and cleaning products to guarantee results.
WHAT IS THE WATER DAMAGE REMEDIATION PROCESS?
The water damage remediation process starts with removing excess water and drying the area completely. The remediation team will then clean the area, sanitize it, and complete any necessary repairs to restore the area to its previous condition.
